Renovations to an 1810 Maine salt water farmhouse
Deer Isle, Maine
This home started as a small farmhouse, and grew over the years with additions toward the left. The changes made with this redesign included adding the gable at left which brought light into a formerly dark attic, making it an attractive bedroom. The bay window was added to the dining room, and the sun porch extended to make it more spacious.
Brick on sand floor in the sun porch adds to the outdoors feeling. Ventilation windows can be left open even in rainy weather.
Harmonizing old and new elements, opening up views on the water side, and keeping a sense of traditional Maine styles was a major goal in this redesign.
